Fringed Banquet Cloth
This is an extraordinary example of double damask linen featuring an intricate, all over design of ferns and tropical foliage. The cut ends are fringed very dramatically. I don't believe the cloth has ever been cleaned. There appears to be sizing and the fringe looks untouched. I would imagine this cloth was designed for display as opposed to dining. The fringe would make regular washing problematic. I do not have any provenance for this piece but, in my opinion, the quality puts it in the 19th century and the style may indicate an Italian heritage. The color is best represented by the first photo. There are some age related spots on the piece but no damage or weak areas. 66" x 122"
